A newly released study by the University of Hawaiʻi Economic Research Organization (UHERO) commissioned by Hawaiʻi HomeOwnership Center (HHOC) reveals that the growing number of construction defect litigation lawsuits significantly impact housing and financing opportunities for potential homebuyers and current homeowners. These lawsuits led to increased insurance and material costs, limit or eliminate access to government-backed loan programs like FHA and VA, impact refinancing options, and potentially discourage new for-sale projects, further limiting availability of entry-level and mid-level homes.
